Singles Day is on 11 November, and Black Friday falls on 27 November this year. Many pet shops are already advertising "up to 50 percent" and countdowns. We are not running a Black Friday campaign. Instead, here is a short plan for buying fewer things for your dog that get used every day, and skipping the rest.
1. Start with what your dog uses every day
Collar, leash and bag holder come along on every single walk, two to four times a day. This is where quality matters most. If you want leather, see the Kollu collar, the Lussa leash and the Saku bag holder in camel. Prefer fabric? The I am fluffy collar and leash are easy to wash and come in calm colours.
2. Pick one colour and build on it over time
You do not need to buy everything at once. Choose one colour or one pattern, and add one thing at a time when it is needed. That way the new always matches the old, and you avoid a basket full of things that do not go together. If you like a pattern, the walk set in Autumn Check brings collar and leash together in one. The bandana can come later. See ideas in Scandinavian dog style.
3. One soft spot instead of three
Most dogs have a favourite spot. Give it one good base instead of several so-so cushions: a dog bed for the corner or a sherpa blanket that works on the sofa and can come along to the summer house. If you are often on the go, the Okka travel mat can replace both.
4. Measure before you buy
The most wasted dog gear is the gear that does not fit. Measure the neck before you order, and use the size guide or our guide to the right collar size. A puppy grows fast, so choose something adjustable and wait with the expensive things until it is fully grown.
5. Look after what you have
A little care makes things last longer. Wash fabric at a low temperature, let leather dry slowly after a wet walk, and read washing and caring for your bandana.
6. Write a wish list instead of buying in the November rush
Write down what you are missing and wait a week. If it is still on the list, it is probably a good buy. If the family asks what the dog wants for Christmas, you can send them the list or suggest a gift card, so you can choose colour and size yourself.
In short
Fewer things, chosen with care, in one colour that goes together. We have gathered the everyday base in Buy less, buy better. Already thinking about Christmas? See Christmas gifts for dogs.
